All About Cosmetic Dentistry And How It Can Improve Your Smile

June 10, 2021

Cosmetic services are one of the most sought-after treatments here at Kildonan Crossing Dental Centre.

Fortunately, there are dental innovations that can improve our smile without breaking the bank.

For dental issues such as tooth decay, discolouration and damage, these cosmetic dentistry procedures are sure to boost confidence.

Teeth Whitening

Teeth can be stained from food and beverages such as coffee and tea. Taking certain medication and years of smoking also contributes to teeth stain and discolouration.

Teeth whitening treatments can help whiten your teeth using a bleaching agent.

Here at our clinic, we offer Zoom! teeth whitening treatments and at-home whitening kits. We also provide fluoride rinses that help whiten teeth during your dental cleaning appointments.

Dental Implants

If you have missing teeth, one treatment option we often recommend is dental implants

Dental implants are screw-like posts that are fixed permanently into the jaw. We attach a crown at the top of the post that looks just like natural teeth.

Inlays and Onlays

Also called indirect fillings, inlays and onlays are cosmetic dentistry procedures for tooth decay. We recommend these when the decay is too severe for a regular filling.

Inlays are placed on top of a tooth surface, which is called the tooth cusp or biting surface of the tooth. Inlays cover a smaller area of the tooth and are meant to fix milder decay. On the other hand, onlays covers the entire surface of the tooth, and are used for cases where there is more damage.

Composite Bonding

Another great solution to tooth decay, discolouration and damage is composite bonding procedures.

Our dentist starts by removing the decayed part of the tooth. Then they sculpt and form a material closest to the colour of the natural tooth on the remaining healthy structure of the tooth. Lastly, they cure the material using a high-intensity light.

Dr. Karen Lischka recently did a cosmetic treatment for one of her patients entirely with direct bonding and no freezing.

“She was unable to receive dental care for a number of years and as a result had some significant staining and enamel wear,” says Dr. Lischka. “We provided her with a thorough cleaning and then placed bonded composite veneers on her upper teeth to create a more natural colour and shape.”

Dental Veneers

Dental veneers are another great option to fix crooked teeth, gaps between teeth and cracked or damaged enamel.

Veneers are caps that are placed on the front of the tooth using a dental adhesive. They are made out of medical grade ceramic and are custom-fit for each patient.
