How A Typical Exam Goes

Dental exams with dentures are similar to regular exams. We look for any broken teeth, signs of gum disease, oral cancers, and take any steps to remove tartar and bacteria regular brushing and flossing cannot. We will take the opportunity to make sure your prosthetic is in good condition, and make any adjustments or repairs to them. You should always let us know if you feel any discomfort after we make alterations. We will accommodate your pain and make it right. It’s wise to keep making regular dental appointments even if you have a full set of false teeth. Your gums can still change shape, and certain medications you take can affect the health of your mouth. Regular dental exams are the best way we can stay on top of your oral health. We are trained to anticipate any issues due to your teeth’s alignment, your bite, and the health of your gums.

Caring For Your Dentures at Home

Dentures are tough, but they’re softer than natural teeth. If you drop them, they can break. Be sure to take good care of them when they’re not in your mouth. Even little things, like laying them on a soft cloth instead of a hard countertop, make a difference in keeping your dentures in top shape. Here are a few simple tips to remember:

  • Rinse your prosthetic, and your mouth, after meals
  • Brush your dentures daily to remove any food particles and stains
  • Soak your dentures in a dental-cleansing solution overnight
  • You can’t whiten dentures, so avoid any bleaching or whitening products
  • Always use warm water, not hot, to wash your dentures—hot water can warp them

Your comfort is our biggest priority. Come see us if anything feels broken or loose in your mouth!
