Invisalign: The Alternative To Braces

Smiles are powerful. Believe it or not, smiling can improve your health and even help you live longer.

Not everyone is born with straight teeth, or they become crooked as you grow and get your adult teeth in. And while we do love smiles of different shapes and sizes, we are happy to offer services that can help Winnipeggers improve their smiles.

Although people often turn to braces to straighten their teeth, there are other treatment options besides metal brackets and wires.

Invisalign won’t work for everyone but here at Kildonan Crossing Dental Centre, we’ll make sure you get the best treatment option for your smile - whether it’s with aligners or braces.

What Is Invisalign?

Like metal braces, Invisalign is designed to straighten teeth and improve your smile - except they’re made from clear plastic that comfortably fits around your teeth.

How does Invisalign work? A set of custom-made aligners are manufactured specifically for your teeth. For this treatment plan, patients need to have check-ups roughly every six to eight weeks to check their progress and collect their next set of aligners. About twice a month, you would need to discard your old aligner trays for the new ones you picked up at your last appointment. Over time, the tray will slowly shift your teeth in the direction prescribed by your dentist or orthodontist.

Depending on the complexity of your case, you could complete your treatment in six months, but you will see results in a matter of weeks. Your usual daily routine will not be disrupted because Invisalign aligners are easy to take out, allowing you to eat and brush your teeth like normal.

What Are The Benefits Of Invisalign Over Traditional Metal Braces?

Both Invisalign and metal braces work to give you the same results, straight teeth. But Invisalign won’t work for everyone, depending on how much work is needed to straighten your teeth you may or may not be able to use these clear aligners. What else makes them different from braces?

  • Aesthetics – You may prefer Invisalign because the trays are clear, and you don't want the appearance of metal in your mouth.
  • Removable – One of the benefits of having Invisalign is that you can remove it at any time, allowing you to eat the foods you love, practice good oral hygiene, and feel a bit more comfortable while the alignment of your teeth changes.
  • Comfort – Metal brackets can rub on your cheeks, creating sores in your mouth. Invisalign doesn’t.
  • Easier teeth cleaning - When wearing traditional braces, removing food and plaque from around the brackets and at the gum line can be difficult. With Invisalign, you can simply remove them and practice good oral hygiene the way you always do.

When you come in for your appointment, your dentist will discuss the best treatment option for you.
